We manage our goats to naturally keep parasite loads low and treat them only when needed. In the spring, summer, and autumn months, the goats are moved every few days to browse different areas of our farm, keeping non-native fast growing shrubs at bay, accessing a diverse diet, and satiating their curiosity. In the winter, they stay in a paddock close to the kidding barn. They join us year round for walks through the farm trails to browse and munch available plants. Our goats are never fed grain, but pregnant and milking does are offered supplemental feed and alfalfa pellets to sustain their energy and mineral needs.

We test our goat herd annually for disease and are free of Johnnes, CAE & CL. Goat kids are dam raised as much as possible and at times supplemented by bottle to ensure average gain of 4 oz a day for the first two weeks, knowing this will give them the best chances of naturally fighting parasites and infections for the rest of their lives. Kids stay with us until at least 8 weeks of age. We interact with the kids every day, unpolled kids are disbudded within the first 10 days, and they receive proper deworming and age appropriate CDT vaccinations. All bucks are sold intact and with ADGA registration unless requested to be wethered.

Astro’s sire, Honey Sweetie Acres Eminence, has premier genetics for strong milking lineage, with proven performance through both his sire (a double Wood Bridge Farm buck) and his dam (Wood Bridge Farm Ma Cherie, the mother of the 2018 American Goat Society Junior National Champion).
Astro’s dam, Fairland Farm PK Sicily Island 1*M is a proven milker in her herd and we are excited to see how these genetics support milk production on Woven Farm.
